Dawn Chorus supporters make a cash donation of between $3,000-$5,000. We have set it at this amount so that it is affordable and significant.
We also invite our Dawn Chorus supporters to identify service or product lines that they could offer for use by one of the volunteer groups, researchers or DOC workers as appropriate.
In the case of inaugural sponsors Southern Wilderness the offer was made for a guided walk on the Heaphy Track - this was subsequently auctioned at the Possum Debate and Wilderness Auction held during Conservation Week, 2004.
Waitiri Creek have now on two occasions provided the wine for our informal Dawn Chorus get togethers
A stepping stone to bigger things …
For several of the companies who have joined Dawn Chorus this entry level sponsorship serves as a stepping stone to a more significant sponsorship at a later date. In such cases the sponsors concerned have seek naming rights and planning has included developing promotional and media strategies to build profile.
Two prime examples of this are the Kathmandu Lizard Conservation and Mitre 10 Takahe Rescue.
In February 2005 Kathmandu undertook to sponsor a survey to locate populations of New Zealand alpine geckos which were thought to be endangered. The project was branded Kathmandu Lizard Conservation - a naming rights sponsorship with an exclusivity period of 12 months with a right to renewal for a further 12 months.
In September 2005 Mitre 10 undertook to sponsor the Takahe Recovery Programme through a three year sponsorship administered by the New Zealand National Parks and Conservation Foundation. The long-term goal is to have two viable populations of Takahe each with 100 pairs. One population will be maintained within its present and former range in Fiordland National Park and the second population will comprise takahe on groups of islands and other mainland sites.
