Conservation Week Wilderness Auction Cheque presentations

On September 28th deputy chairman of the Foundation and Mayor of Auckland Dick Hubbard presented cheques to five island trusts in the Hauraki Gulf Marine Park.

Motuihe Supporters Trust gained $5,000, Motuora Restoration Society gained $7,000 Tiritiri Matangi $3,200, Little Barrier Island Supporters Trust $5,000 and Motu Kaikoura Trust $5,000.

The projects ranged from monitoring and researching the breeding patterns among endangered native Brown Teal to weed eradication and an information kiosk.

At the function, which was held in the Mayoral Chamber, stitchbird recovery programme manager Richard Griffiths gained a further funding and this money will go towards the purchase of a burrowscope to monitor the breeding/laying habits of this endangered little bird.
