The Foundation launches Laying Down the Gauntlet
On 26 April 2006 the New Zealand National Parks and Conservation Foundation unveiled its Laying Down the Gauntlet campaign at the offices of Bell Gully in Auckland. The aim of the campaign is to challenge New Zealand businesses who use our endangered, iconic species as their namesake or trademark to make a contribution back. According to Jane Arnott, Executive Director, "companies benefit from the feel-good factor of native species without realising that each and everyone of them is in serious decline".
Ruud Kleinpaste officiated at the launch and we have the backing of Weta Workshop, Tuatara Management and Weka Wines (in the UK) who were incredibly supportive of the concept. Richard Taylor and Tania Rodger of Weta Workshop offered their endorsement and Richard was featured in a large article in the Sunday Star Times with giant wetas on his glasses!
We hope the campaign will be successful and that New Zealand companies will take up the gauntlet. If you know of a company who should receive the gauntlet please email or call the Foundation!
